Kitchen Knives Are Not Toys

My young son is rather mischievous and curious at the same time. He is very interested in things around him and would not hesitate to pick things up to examine them especially for those items that he has seen me used before, even after I warned him not to do so. One such incident happened not too long ago in our kitchen. My heart skipped a few beats that day.

We have some of the best kitchen knives in our kitchen and we took great care to place them high up where our son would not be able to reach for them. Or so we thought. My son was in the kitchen with me when my phone rang and I went to answer it. When I came back to the kitchen about 3 minutes later, I almost fainted to see him holding one of the knives and pretending to cut some imaginary food! He had apparently used a stool to step on to reach the knives. I immediately took the knife away from him and gave him a long lecture on kitchen safety. I do hope my nagging did go into him.
