Going to the Lake
Ever since I was a little boy I have been going out to the lake every summer with my dad to go fishing for trout and bass. As a child I enjoyed just sitting back and listening to my dad tell stories. He is a very good storyteller because he has a terrific cadence to his voice and he is very calm and passionate when he speaks. But this year I think that things might get a little boring. I have heard all my dad’s funny stories and I’m very familiar with all of his funny quotes. At this point, it is basically just my dad repeating humorous anecdotes that he has already shared dozens of times in the past. I explained my point of view to my mother when I was arguing that I did not want to go to the fishing trip this year but she insisted that I go because apparently my father enjoyed it very much.
In order to ensure that we will both have a good time, I am compiling a list of my own funny quotes to share with my dad. I figure that he has been sharing all of his stories all of his life and at this point, since I’m almost 25 years old, I can begin to share some of my stories with him. I have to be careful because he is still my dad and do not want to get too raunchy and I do not want to get too honest about my life, but I will share some of the funny quotes that my friends have said in the past. I think, therefore, that this will be a very fun and unique fishing trip and maybe it will be the best one that we have ever had. It will be a great bridge to cross in our relationship and I’m excited for it.
One of the funny quotes I’m going to share with my dad is something that my friend Joe said last summer. I wrote it down in my journal when he said it so I will memorize it when I tell it to my dad, right now I do not have it memorized word for word. All I know is that it was something about the date he went on with the girl. Something very funny happened on that date. I think that the girl said something rude to my friend Jo did not want to say anymore rude things to him so he began saying very rude things to her. It was such a great funny story of preemptive rudeness and I cannot wait to share with my dad what were sitting on the fishing boat this summer.
