I Just Wrote About What I Know

There is a lot of Buzz around James Morrison right now in the states, where James has spoken about his writing and his life. “I just wrote about what I know,” he says. “But I didn’t want to set the tone too sad. I wanted to write an album where people would know that I’d been through a hard time, but no matter. You can come out of it.”

Only two years ago, he was cleaning vans for a living, six days a week, struggling to book gigs, even open-mic nights, in his scant time off.

Morrison possesses a rough, soulful voice that emanates ’70s soul (think Stevie Wonder) in songs such as “This Boy” or “If the Rain Must Fall.” Harmonicas, horn sections and hand claps fill out the Englishman’s sound, making the songs even more addictive.

James Morrison The New James Blunt

It seems like there has been a lot of news and attention on James Morrison right now over in good ol’ USA, where 95% of people seem to of course been comparing him to James Blunt.  This article is already suggesting that James Morrison could be the next Blunt and be a huge Brit success over there.

Is America ready for the next sensitive singer-songwriter from across the pond? James Morrison, whose album “Undiscovered” went platinum over in England, is releasing the debut album here in the states.

While he isn’t a Morrison of the Van variety, this soul crooner with a distinctive, if gravelly, voice could find popularity in the way James Blunt has. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
